Traxxas BigFoot 2wd - Review

We were looking for something really fun for our little boy's birthday present and we stumbled upon this Bigfoot Monster Truck. This truck is essentially a Stampede with cool monster truck style. The Stampede platform has been around for a while and has a great part list and proven performance.

Some may not like that this comes with NiMH battery, but I think this is a plus as many people purchasing the Bigfoot are new to the hobby or purchasing for their kids.  NiMH is a safer battery and easier to maintain. For those that want to go the LiPo route, it is as easy as clicking a button to switch modes. A big negative that will disappoint many is the need to purchase a AC adaptor in order to plug your charger into a wall socket.

When my kids first started to learn throttle control I would put it on training mode to cut the speed. They are now able to drive it fine without needing to switch it in training mode. We all get an absolute blast out of making jumps, taking it on hikes, camping trips, etc. It is fun watching it blast through the woods or doing massive jumps. It is 2WD so it gets stuck more often than a 4WD, but it also makes it more fun drifting in dirt/leaves/wet pavement. The slightly out of control feel is what adds to the excitement.

UPDATE: List of things that I have broken...Wheelie Bar, Snapped Caster Block, Bent Front Shocks, 2 Servo Savers, and Rear Body Mount/Post. I bash this hard though and

Upgrade Advice:
You may consider purchasing another body for when you are bashing it. The big draw to buying a Bigfoot over a Stampede is the looks, if you destroy your bigfoot body and it is ever discontinued you may be beating your future self up about it. I have a display body and a reinforced bashing body (I will make a how to video soon!). Speaking of bashing, we have put this thing through a lot. We love taking it to the skate park and going full speed into trees to do awesome flips. My kids are very hard on it.

The only other must purchase is a wheelie bar. Not only will it protect the body, it is stupid fun doing wheelies with this thing.  There is a design flaw on the wheelie bar that allows the bottom to slip out and needs to be pushed back after a hard hit. I think this is what lets the long screw that holds it in to bend. Ohh yeah and buy an extra battery!

The caster blocks are known to fail and I just had one crack. I am replacing with Traxxas Blue Anodized Aluminum. Keep in mind it is usually best not to go metal on metal for your basher so I suggest keeping the plastic steering block.

I will post a video review soon on my YouTube channel, please subscribe!
