HBX Devastator - Review

I really wanted this to be more capable than the SCX24. In some ways it is but overall I think the SCX24 is actually more capable (stock vs. stock). The main issue is ground clearance, the differentials are low bang on everything. The saving grace of the HBX Devastator is the amazing steering system. This is where it out performs the SCX24. If you get stuck, you can kind of wiggle the steering and power through the issue. The other area it outperforms the SCX24 is how stable it is. It is heavy and wide with what seems a lower center of gravity. You can get really sideways in this thing without tipping. 

The build quality seems very high and the battery life has been great (30-40 mins or so on a charge). I do wish I had the ability to swap batteries easily, but for most this wont be an issue. I think bigger tires would have addressed the ground clearance issue, especially since the servos and motors could definitely handle it. I will be looking at this as my first mod. UPDATE: Read the blog post on the Monster Truck tires...This is pretty much our favorite crawler now. 

Where this wins is the fun factor. 10 out of 10 for pure fun. The ability to change the steering adds tremendously to how fun it is to run. The monster truck looks and metal bits just add to the cool factor. It definitely puts a smile on my face, and that is really what it is all about for me. Is it more capable than other popular mini crawlers? No. Does it need to be to be one of my favorite new toys? No. You can't go wrong with this purchase and highly suggest it.
